The purpose of the Durham Friends of the Library is:
1. To foster closer relations between the Durham Branch of Butte County Public Library system and the people of Durham.
2. To co-operate with the Durham Library staff in accomplishing mutually agreed upon activities that do not infringe on the legal duties and directions of, and for, that staff.
3. To focus public attention on the services, programs, facilities, and needs of the library.
4. To encourage gifts, bequests, endowments, etc., to the library which are in keeping with the purposes and facilities of the library.
The Durham Friends of the Library organization recognizes that the administration of the Durham Public Library rests solely with the library staff under the direction of the Butte County Board of Supervisors, and that no action of the Durham Friends of the Library organization are intended to conflict with that direction.
Membership in the Durham Friends of the Library is $10 per year, or $100 life time. The DFOL meets on the third Thursday of the month at 5:30 PM, except for the months of July, August, and December. The DFOL’s annual Library Honors has recognized members of our community since 2000 with the annual Honors evening the culmination of weeks of biographical articles in the Durham FORUM. Library Honors takes place during National Library Week (the third week of April). Recognition takes the form of a book placed on the shelves of the library honoring or in memory of an individual. Library Honors has provided a wide-ranging number of topics, consistent with the honorees’ interests. Contact the Durham FOL at 2545 Durham Dayton Hwy, or at P.O. Box 505, Durham, CA 95938
