President Dave Jessen opened the meeting at the BCCC.  He asked Chris Hatch to lead the pledge, which he did.  Dave then asked Larry Bradley to lead us in singing.  He led us in singing “God Bless America”.   Jim Patterson then gave the invocation.

VISITING ROTARIANS & GUESTS

 

Steve Plume introduce the District Governor’s wife, Bonnie.

 

Mike Wacker had no one at his table to introduce so each contributed $1.

 

Ravi Siap introduced the President’s wife, Suzanne and Red Badge member bob Adolf.

 

NEW MEMBER

 

Bob Adolf was inducted as a new member of Durham Rotary informally, at the meeting on September 11th.  He was presented with his Red Badge at the time.

 

A more formal ceremony took place at this meeting with the Assistance of the District Governor.  Welcome again Bob.

 

 

Bob was instructed to take this banner back to Geogie Bellin, a former member and now a member of the Chico Club.  Georgie brought him to our club suggesting that he should be a member of Durham Rotary.  He is to extract some recognition from her.

 

NEXT MEETING

 

The next meeting will a club assembly on the Harvest Festival.  All should be present to submit their thoughts and suggestions based on things they saw, that went wrong or could be done better.

 

Larry Bradley did thank every member for a good job done at the Harvest Festival.

 

BOARD MEETING

 

There was a meeting of the Board of Directors at 5:00 pm, before this meeting, with the District Governor.   

 

 

 

REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

Election Help Needed

Glenn Pulliam reports that the Butte County Elections Office has asked if we will once again help on election night, November 6th. They are looking for 6 volunteers to do essentially the same jobs we did last time.  Glenn is going to help, so he need 5 more able bodies.  Please let Glenn know ASAP if you are willing and able.

Casino Night

A new fund raiser for technology at the High School will be Casino Night on November 3rd at the Memorial Hall.  They need bartenders.  Steve Heithecker has volunteered but we need more helping hands.

Membership

 

Bring guests, who you think you can interest in becoming a member, to meetings.  In the meantime please invite Durham business owners and/or managers to one of our meeting.

 

RECOGNITIONS

 

Steve Plume elected to have a song for his birthday, as long as Larry didn’t participate.  So we all sang Happy Birthday.  He contributed $7 for that but then disclosed that his 10th grandchild was born a few days ago.  He contributed $100 for that, becoming a Bell Ringer.

 

Larry Bradley disclose that his birthday was coming up.  But he elected no song and contributed $10.

 

Chris Hatch contributed $10 for keeping the Grinder extra days last month.  Mike Wacker the auctioned the Grinder.  It was bid in by Glenn Pulliam in his absence.  Several member submitted bids for him.  He got it for $75.

 

Must Be Present to Win Drawing:

 

None tonight because the rotating wheel had been cleaned out so that there were no names in it.

 

PROGRAM

 

The program was the visit of District Governor, Jon Dwyer.  He talked about the Rotary International President’s theme this year (see upper left corner of the Rowel) and in particular “inspiration”.

 

The District Governor then present plaques to several member as follows:

·       K. R. Robertson for 40 years service to Rotary.

·       James Patterson for 45 years service to Rotary.

·       Roy Ellis for 47 years service to Rotary.

·       Clint Goss for 47 years service to Rotary.

·       James Kirks or 50 years service to Rotary.

·       He then presented one to your editor for 24 years as Rowel editor.
