The Meeting Opening

The meeting was called to order by President Eric Hoiland at the Butte Creek Country Club.

Eric asked Steve Plume to lead the pledge, which he did.  He then asked Jim Patterson to give the invocation, which he did.  Eric then asked Larry Bradley to lead us in a song.  Larry first noted that Nancy and Jim Patterson were celebrating their 57th anniversary as well as his 90th birthday.  Larry led us in singing “Happy Birthday” revised as “Happy Anniversary”.

Crab Feed

From President Hoiland:

Kristen Cargile is doing an awesome job of organizing the Crab Feed Event.  We did decide to do an in-person event on Saturday, January 22nd.  We have some members who are willing to help out before the event and some who will help out during the event.  We are very excited to bring back the Durham Crab Feed to the community.  Below are two important issues that I encourage all of us to support as we move forward with this event:

    1.  Please use the Crab Feed letter emailed to all of you to get items for our Silent Auction.  THE SUCCESS OF THE DURHAM CRAB FEED DEPENDS UPON US ALL TO GET 4-5 AUCTION ITEMS AS THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR FUNDRAISING EFFORTS.  PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL TO KRISTEN OR ME REGARDING AUCTION ITEMS YOU HAVE SECURED!
    2. Durham Rotarians can purchase a table for the Crab Feed by this Friday, December 10th.  Tables are $600 for 8 people.  PLEASE LET KRISTEN KNOW IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON PURCHASING A TABLE BY THIS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 10TH.  After Friday, we will open up Event Bright for community members to purchase a table.

Other Matters

Durham HS Girls Basketball Tournament

John Bohannon reported that the still have a need for volunteers for the Durham HS Girls Basketball Tournament.  There is a link below that you can copy and paste into another browser to sign up to volunteer.   We are looking for help with our tournament this weekend, and any help would be greatly appreciated. In addition to helping work the tournament we are also in need of housing for Fall River players, currently we have one family who will be hosting four players. I am still waiting on a response from the Fall River AD about how many players will need housing but my guess would be close to 25. If you know of anyone who has the space and could take a couple players that would be great, we house them every year and without housing they are unable to attend.

The Rotary Foundation Donations

You can make a difference in this world by helping people in need. Your gift can do some great things, from supplying filters that clean people’s drinking water to empowering local entrepreneurs to grow through business development training.

The Rotary Foundation will use your gift to fund the life-changing work of Rotary members who provide sustainable solutions to their communities’ most pressing needs. But we need help from people like you who will take action and give the gift of Rotary to make these projects possible.

When every Rotarian gives every year, no challenge is too great for us to make a difference. The minimum gift to The Rotary Foundation is $25.00.   An annual $100.00 gift is a sustaining member.  Once your donations accumulate to $1,000 you become a Paul Harris Fellow.

It is possible to learn more about The Rotary Foundation on the Rotary web site.

Your gift can be made online or by sending Jessica Thorpe a check made out to The Rotary Foundation to Durham Rotary, P.O. Box 383, Durham, California 95958.

Membership

Bring guests who you think you can interest in becoming a member.  Think of business owners or managers to bring.  Your dinner and your guest’s dinner will be paid for by the Club.  Also, bring a guest to one of our occasional social gatherings in the Durham Park or a Pizza place (Monday Night Football).

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be a visit from the District Governor on December 14th.

We should all be present for this visit.

I assume that, like usual, there will be a Board Meeting with the District Governor at 5:00 pm, before the meeting, but I have no information on that yet.  Watch for emails from President Hoiland.

Program

The program was the Christmas Party.   First, we had a great meal, with dessert.   Then Larry Bradley led us in singing Christmas Carols.  Following that we had a spirited gift exchange led by Ravi Saip.  As the pictures below show, he got a little messy.   It is all in the pictures below.  It should be noted that all of the pictures of couples as well as the group picture at the end were taken by Kristen Cargile.  Thank you, Kristsen

All have been reduced in size so as not to make the Rowel file too large.  However, all are available in their full size from Kristen or me.  Well, I have not actually checked with Kristen, but I assume so.

Conclusion

Eric Hoiland then closed the meeting.
